As many dealerships brace for what is expected to be a difficult year for profitability, I'm curious what most dealerships are doing with their parts inventory.

Has the dollar value of your parts inventory increased or decreased over the past year?

This question will be posted in each of the franchise sections to determine if there is a trend that can be identified. Additionally, I'd like to hear opinions about each manufacturer's parts return programs.

So, here's the question for the Parts Managers: Has the dollar value of your parts inventory increased or decreased over the past year? Also, how would you rate your manufacturer's parts return program?

Please take a moment and share your thoughts.

My dollar value has decreased in the past 12 months, both GM and Toyota. Im just cutting back on the fat in the dealership parts room and controlling orders a bit more than previously done.

Toyota has a pretty good return process. Portland PDC is great, and they are always willing to help out a guy who fat fingered a part number or quantity.

GM on the other hand.................. 1% return reserve, and if I fat finger a part number or a quantity, it costs me 35% for the privelage of sending parts back to them. Granted its an easy process, a few minutes on the computer and its done, but still.............
