Default Judge denies motion filed by Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge

News reports indicate a judge has denied a motion filed by Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge to prevent Chrysler from opening a new dealership eight miles away. For the full report - click here

While I concede I don't know that market, it seems strange that Chrysler's fighting with the OLDCO dealers to prevent stores from re-opening while they're fighting with this dealer in Florida to open a store that's only eight miles away from his location.

What make the situation even more interesting is the fact that Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge is not your average dealership - it's a $20 Million Super-Store that's owned by the same dealer who owns Central Florida CJD. Why would Chrysler want to open a store within eight miles of a dealer who made a $20 Million investment?

I can only speculate. Money, favors or both? A lot of things these guys have done lately don’t make sense to me. But it appears their dealer relations are nearing an all-time low.

Default Chrysler fills Open Point created by OLDCO Termination

I found another newspaper report that answers a few more questions. The dealership that's going to be opened is First Coast Dodge - it will fill an Open Point which was created when Chrysler terminated Caruso Chrysler Jeep Dodge as part of the 789 OLDCO terminations.

First Coast Dodge will lease the old Caruso CJD location and start by selling Dodge and RAM vehicles and then expand to Chrysler/Jeep at a later date.

Here's a link to the news report - click here

It really is amazing when your think of the hypocrisy. Chrysler's current mantra is they need fewer dealers and the dealers they keep need to have all the brands under one roof.

So what does Chrysler do - they award a single-point Dodge franchise to replace the full-line CJD dealer they terminated last year and the new dealer's going to use the old dealer's facility. Even better, they decide to do this within eight miles of a dealer who invested $30 Million in his store to support Chrysler.

To me, this looks like Project Genesis in reverse.....

Is is project Genesis or project Genocide? I think back to what Ralph said, the factory needs "X" units to make itself profitable and doesn't give a crap how the individual dealers do. As long as there are enough outlets to move the product, all is good.

The latest headline this morning is the new Dodge Dealership is closed - the doors are locked, the employees are gone and there's only a single Chrysler Sebring sitting on the lot. What happened? Who knows?

FLEET FACTS is reporting "First Coast Dodge" Jacksonville, FL is on the "TERMINATED DEALERSHIP LIST" as of July 30th. Talk about about a Quick Dealership Open and Terminate.....

There must be a lot more to this story that's hidden below the surface.

The dealership wasn't even open for a month and now it's closed and the dealer code has been deactivated. What other OEM runs their business like this?
