Default Economic Indicator

Poverty is one of the major concerns of the world’s population and nations worldwide. Surely, if unemployment is rising, it is a sign that the economy is in bad shape. Apparently, the Bizzaro World, also known as Htrae (Earth in reverse) is a square planet that is populated by twisted types of Superman and his other DC universe friends. Some signs of economic health seem like they would make a good deal more sense on Htrae.

Given the July car sales numbers I get the impression that the overall economy is relatively strong right now.

That said, I also get the impression that wealth and prosperity are limited to a smaller sector of the population than they were five to 10 years ago. There have been many articles written about the death of the middle class and I'm inclined to agree with them.

While I don't recall the exact figure, I was amazed at the high percentage of U.S. citizens that don't have a checking account and rely on check-cashing companies to perform basic banking activities.

If I had to guess, I'd bet that the percentage of Americans that had the income and credit to buy a new car is at a post-war low.

Here's a link to a report indicating that 28% of Americans are either "unbanked" or "under-banked" - Click Here

I guess that's why there are so many Check Cashing stores and Title Loan stores - the market of people who need to use these services is high.
