Default Bret Chevrolet in Kent closes down

News reports indicated that Bret Chevrolet in Kent has laid off 63 employees and closed their dealership.

Here's a link to the news report: http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/busi...evrolet_closed

While the closing of a Domestic Dealership is hardly news anymore, this is one of the first closings in Western Washington that didn't involve some type of consolidation. In this case the franchise just vaporized.

The economy and the real estate cycle are finally starting to make their impact in this region. For over a year the Seattle area was still showing solid real estate sales while the rest of the nation was in a state of decline.

The only question now is how long will this decline last and how deep will it go?

Do you know what other dealerships have closed so far in the Seattle area?

Almost all of them have involved some type of consolidation. That said, here's a list of the dealers in the Seattle area that have closed in that last 18 months or so:
  • Puyallup Chrysler - merged with Larson Dodge
  • Brewer Chrysler - merged with Tom Matson Dodge
  • Eastside Chrysler - merged with Dodge of Bellevue
  • Lynnwood Dodge - merged with Town and Country C/J
  • Bill Pierre Dodge - merged with Rairdon's Kirkland C/J
  • Dwayne Lane Dodge - merged with Dwayne Lane C/J
  • BBC Dodge - Franchise vaporized as part of "Project Genesis"
  • Bellevue Pontiac/GMC
  • Bret Chevrolet
  • Suzuki of Seattle
  • Hiatt Pontiac/GMC
I may be missing some, but that's the list to the best of my knowledge.
