Default Newbie from north of the border!

Hey Guys,

Quick intro, My name is Justin. I'm a Technician @ The BMW Store in Vancouver BC. We are a BMW dealership with the only Rolls-Royce franchise in Western Canada. I am also writer/photographer for an online review website called OutDrive (www.OutDrive.ca). Hoping to establish some contacts here both for review purposes for OutDrive, and for future work, as I have been considering relocating to Los Angeles/Santa Monica for some time.

Justin - Welcome to the forum.

The forum's been a little quiet lately but there are some great people here. The majority of the members are Chrysler and GM dealers - some who are active and others who had their franchise terminated as part of the Chrysler and GM bankruptcies.

We have a few Fixed Operations people on board but the closest thing we have to BMW is the fact that our Moderator SHACOS used to lease one last year.

Concerning Canada, it's great to have someone from up North. We even have a smilie to honor your presence.

Thanks for the introduction and good luck with your website - I'll have to check it out once I get caught up.

I remember a Service Manager who told me his Rolls Royce Factory Rep would travel with a checkbook and he'd write the dealer a check at the end of his visit once he reviewed and approved all the warranty claims.

That was a long time ago, but I always believed the story to be true.

Default How's BMW's Maintenance Program from a Technician's perspective?

Justin,

I'd be curious to hear your assessment of BMW's Free Maintenance program's from a technician's perspective. Do you love it or hate it?

I know whenever Chrysler offered oil changes or maintenance as a sales incentive most technicians hated it because it cut into their "bread and butter." Is BMW's program more friendly to the Service Department?

Finally! Some BMW blood! I'll have to check out your website too. My ultimate dream would be being an owner of a BMW store, driving an M3 and making fun of Chrysler vehicles. That's my dream. Welcome!

You know, I've come in after the service inclusive plans were in place, and have had to live with them from the get-go. I have no real issues with it. The times are a bit lousy compared to customer-pay maintenance, However I think customers just fall into the routine of coming to us for service, so when the car goes off warranty they are more likely to keep coming. A bit of a long term strategy. What I have a hard time with is how many customers are not being educated on the need for LOW MILEAGE oil changes... you can tell when a customer is just doing the bare minimum maintenance.
The engines don't run as well and are more likely to have problems down the road.

Well, you're already one-third of the way toward reaching your goal.
