Default Marshall almost beat West Virginia...

I was watching the last half of the Marshall - West Virginia game and was certain I was going to witness history in the making. Marshall was ahead 21 - 6 and momentum was on their side. Marshall had never beaten West Virginia and they were huge underdogs.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the plane crash and the Head Coach's widow spoke during the pre-game ceremonies - the first time she's been in the stadium since the tragedy. Emotions were running high.

To West Virginia's credit they played a fantastic last eight minutes of football and deserved the win. In my opinion Marshall was playing not to lose - but they did. It's amazing how often that happens....

Smile The Huskies won - We're 1 - 1

The UW Huskies got their first win of the season on Saturday by beating Syracuse 41 - 20.

The Huskies didn't play great but it was an improvement over BYU and they managed to come back from a 10 point deficit. Next week they have Nebraska - it will be interesting.

They covered the spread

Holy smokes, 62 - 7 with 21 points scored in the fourth quarter.

I'm guessing the coach was playing his second and third team and they still kept scoring?

My Huskies (The one's on the east coast) won 62-3. Nice win after last week's crushing defeat in Michigan.

Football Nirvana returned this past weekend - both the Huskies and the Seahawks won their games.

On a side note, it's so much fun to watch Pete Carroll's enthusiasm and energy on the Seahawks sideline - he's a great inspiration.

Yep...they were trying NOT to score...Coach Patterson didn't allow them to do anything but running plays toward the end , but a kid broke loose and you can't expect him not to TRY and score. Patterson apologized to the other coach for it anyway.

If you don't want the score "run up", the do something to stop it!
Put your defense out there, and STOP it.

Well, that didn't last long....

Both the Huskies and the Seahawks lost and Jake Locker played poorly. The only good news at this point is the Huskies have a bye week this Saturday which will give them some time to make improvements.

Buckeye's are doing what they should be doing... and the Steelers are doing what most people didn't expect with a 4th string QB. All is good in my little pigskin world.

As far as running up the scores... BCS system almost requires top teams to do this. I was surprised Tressell ran up the score on an in-state team on Sat.. I think this was part BCS and part Heisman for Pryor. ???

I think you're right on both counts.

If you're a coach and you want your team to look good for the BCS and your star player to look good for the Heisman you'd better slaughter your opponent. Sad but true.

Tressel has a history of not "pounding" smaller in-state schools. This exact match-up took place 2yrs ago... Buckeye's only won by 14pts.
