Toyota, Nissan and Honda to recall 3.4 Million vehicles
The headlines are filled with news that Toyota, Nissan and Honda will be recalling 3.4 Million vehicles due to a concern with the passenger air bag systems.
Apparently the air bag can deploy with too much force and can potentially create a fire. Repairs are estimated to take between 1.0 to 2.5 hours of labor to complete. I wonder if this will be a good recall from the dealership's perspective? While it could be argued their are no good recalls, this one will likely generate a lot of labor sales for dealership service departments and will bring a lot of customers back to the dealership who might be in the market for a new car. (The recalled vehicles are between eight and 12 years old.) |

If Honda/Toyota are anything like GM, they'll set the labor rate at .6 hours for all vehicles for the recall. And parts availability will be spotty.

A recall that pays 2.5 in labor is only a good recall from a tech's perspective if the job can actually be completed in that amount of time. |
