Default Lease program for the Chevrolet Volt

While I think the $41K price of the new Chevrolet Volt may scare some people away, I was amazed when I read about the lease program GM intends to offer: 36 Month lease at $350/month with $2,500 down.

The lease program sounds great for the dealers and customers but I sure wouldn't want to be the leasing company (GMAC?) trying to liquidate used Volts with huge residuals three years from now. If there's any truth to the mass-production theories the cost to produce an electric vehicle should plummet in the next three years.

I'm wondering if that price includes the mandated charging 'post'?

Good question, based on this CNET report the answer appears to be no - click here

No worries, however, because the tax payers will be buying the first 4,400 charging stations for the new Volt owners. It also appears the Volt can be plugged in to a standard 110 volt outlet but the recharge time would be increased to 10 hours.

If I owned this car, I'd still be nervous to drive it long distances. How often do you see 110 plug ins on the outside of hotels, restaurants, etc. The infrastructure just isn't there yet, at least in the Denver Metro area.

It's funny you mention that, because I thought the exact same thing before I read a story on the Volt yesterday. Unlike the Nissan Leaf, the Chevrolet Volt has an on-board gasoline engine to extend range and eliminate fears of running the batteries out and not having a charging station nearby.

Chevrolet is going to market the Volt emphasizing this distinction to correct public perception.
