Prices started dropping back the day after Easter! Today Costco and Thorntons are $1.79, both down from $2.03. Expect another price drop at Costo before the day is out!

Default 200 Miles away = 20 cent price drop....

I made another quick road trip to Laughlin and noticed that gas prices are at least 20 to 30 cents cheaper here than they are in Phoenix.

While the Bullhead City area has always has slightly lower prices it's hard for me to imagine why there's a 20 - 30 cent difference for two markets (under the same state taxation) that are only 200 miles from one another.

I think a tanker truck carries about 8,000 gallons of fuel - with a 20 cent spread that would mean you could pay $1,600 to haul gas from Bullhead City to Phoenix before you'd start losing money.

Default Gas down to $1.85 in the Phoenix area

It's been a long time since I've added a post to this thread and since gas is now down to $1.85 at Costco it seemed like a good time to add an update.

As before, it appears that gas prices are following a seasonal pattern and falling to the lowest price of the year in December/January.

It seems to me that it would be a "no brainer" investment to buy 10,000 gallons of gasoline in January for $1.85/gallon and then sell it for $2.00+ during the Fourth of July weekend - that would be an annualized return of almost 20%.

Now if I could just figure out where to store 10,000 gallons of gasoline...

Has been a little spike as of late in the Midwest. $2.25 in inner-ring western suburbs of Detroit tonight. Just filled up for the first time in a few weeks!

Default Still $1.85 at Costco in Phoenix

I was at Costco as recently as yesterday and was surprised to see gas at $1.85 - that's about 20 cents per gallon less than most of the other retail stations.

I did read a headline the other day predicting $3.00 gas in the near future as a result of a recent OPEC agreement. Hopefully the OPEC member will follow their past pattern of cheating and producing beyond their quotas which will keep oil prices low.

Default $1.79 at Costco in Phoenix last week

I made a trip to Costco last week and got some gas at $1.79 - that was the lowest price I've paid in a long time.

Costco's price is quite a bit lower than the rest of the market - I wonder if they cut their margins at this time of year to drive more traffic to their stores or whether it's an indication that prices will fall when the other stations in the market get their next shipment of gasoline?

Default $1.95 at Costco in Phoenix

Gasoline prices seem to be following their seasonal pattern and they are raising at a steady rate in the Phoenix area.

Gas at Costco is $1.95 and that's up about 16 cents over the past month or so.

Default Are gas prices up due to the Hurricanes?

It wasn't too long ago that gas prices at the local Costco in the Phoenix area were hovering near the $2.00 mark - now it's up to $2.29 with many stations in the area selling gas for $2.35 - $2.45 per gallon.

I've read a few headlines suggesting that the gas price increase is in response to the recent hurricanes and the likelihood that refineries will incur some downtime and that will alter the supply/demand relationship.

Given all of the hardship that has fallen on those impacted by the hurricanes I'm certainly not going to complain about a temporary spike in gas prices.
