Default AG settles contempt case against Zangara Dodge

News reports indicated that the New Mexico Attorney General has settled a contempt case against Zangara Dodge for $100,000.

The $100,000 settlement will be used as a restitution fund for customers who have claims against the dealership. The AG's office reports they received almost 100 complaints alleging the dealership failed to pay trade liens, pay license fees, pay for Service Contract and GAP policies, etc.

Surprisingly, the amount the Attorney General settled for is expected to be less than the amount owed to Zangara Dodge customers. If the restitution fund runs short, consumers will have to choose between accepting a reduced amount or filing a separate action against Zangara Dodge.

Default Zangara's back in the news....

Ken Zangara is back in the news because his recent bankruptcy filing indicates he went to Las Vegas and tried to win money gambling in an effort to save his dealership. It's reported that Zangara incurred $250K in gambling losses.

Zangara and his wife filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last month - the shortfall between assets and liabilities exceeds $2 Million.

Trying to win your store back by taking a trip to Las Vegas - that's a lesson they probably don't teach at dealer school.....

The fact that Chrysler allowed Zangara to transition to NEWCO when his store was closed and he was SOT with Chrysler Financial drives me nuts.

The fact that I can't find a reporter who has any interest in this story is just sad.

If I were running CRDR I would make Ken Zangara the poster-boy for the need for a Congressional Review of Chrysler's "data driven" selection process.
