Default Chrysler to become first OEM to offer in-car TV

While I don't know if it will equate to big volumes, Chrysler received some welcome positive press today when they announced they will be the first OEM to offer in-car television.

The option is available as a Mopar Accessory and can be added to vehicles with an existing DVD Entertainment System. Mopar indicates the cost of the system is $629 plus installation and includes a full year of service. After the first year, a monthly $9 subscription will be required.

The system will only work in metro markets because it operates on radio-waves, not satellite. I know Sirius was working on in-car TV several years ago but nothing has materialized.

Here's a link to the Press Release that Reuters published - click here

I must be living in a cave, I had no idea that Sirius was offering Backseat TV.

Given that I don't have kids and the service only offers 3 cartoon channels, maybe that's why I missed the product launch.

Audiovox is offering a similar unit soon too.

Chrysler probably got it from them.

wish they'd invest as much in some cars people would want to put it in...

Yep, Audiovox is the vendor.

Concerning vehicles that people actually want to buy, let's hope for some good news on 11/4.

Audiovox + WalMart = $129.

What was Chryslers' price again?

That certainly has been a problem in the past.

It seems like it's hard for dealers to make any money selling Mopar accessories because the pricing from Chrysler doesn't allow much margin before they're too expensive relative to the rest of the market.
