Default Accavitti is Honda's new Chief Marketing Officer

Honda recently announced they've hired Michael Accavitti as their new Chief Marketing Officer. Many DealershipForum members will remember Accavitti from his days at Chrysler and the phenomenal work he did with the SRT Development Team. Accavitti and Peter Fong both left Chrysler almost two years ago in an apparent conflict with Marchionne.

While it was rumored that Fong was released because his "Double the Rebate" promotion during the Cash for Clunkers program infuriated Marchionne, it was never clear what lead to Accavitti's departure.

Concerning Accavitti and Honda, he joins the company as they face a series of challenges they've never had to deal with in the past. Honda and Acura dealers are still impacted by inventory problems due to the earthquake in Japan and it's likely they'll be dealing with the issue until the early part of 2012.

Ironically, the day Honda announced Accavitti's appointment was the same day Consumer Reports boasted they were dropping the 2012 Honda Civic from their "recommended" list. Nothing like a keeping busy on your first day on the job.
