Default GM ignition switches

Well, I'm not sure about everyone else out there, but I have switches coming out of my ears right now. FedEx shows up daily with anywhere from 4 to 90 of these guys. Our S/M announced that he is resigning the other day, so I have even more stuff plopped on my lap.

Question: Has anyone else noticed a spike in beer consumption in their households since this recall came out???

That's interesting - I wonder how many other GM dealerships now find that they have more recall parts than they do customers?

Concerning beer consumption and the recall, I think that's a fair conclusion. The exception would probably be the Personal Injury Attorneys who have been drinking 100 year old scotch in anticipation of their payday.

Most I've gotten in one day so far is 5

We did one this morning on an 08 Saturn Sky and one of the keys will not program.

I'm on the phone right now with PQC, been on hold for 23:15 so far, have not spoken to anyone yet and will probably not be done with this call for at least another 15-20 minutes

Went through the same crap yesterday with a key I miscut.

They must think I can just chomp on a Timex and **** some more time out for all the crap we have to go through to get the job done

I don't even bother with waiting on hold with PQC. I have just been collecting the mis-cut keys and letting our service department know that I will order a new key once they become available through normal channels.

Angry This is what FLIP is referring to.

I had 15, 10 had already been contacted and 4 of that 10 were here this morning to have their recall done.

Exclamation Gm now just stupid

Parts Manager C: Has anyone considered that the General made us hold these kits so we couldn't hit their payout objectives on their bone us program?

I lost out on 8 appointments on 07/07 due to the parts hold.

ME: YUP, especially that the just released them with NO explanation at all..... it was a money grab, pure and simple

The whole GM Ignition Switch Recall seems like a never ending story where GM goes from one debacle to another.

I can see why the dealership employees are getting frustrated/angry.

I got that inventory hold message up here in Canada too. I chose to ignore it. My go to answer would have been.... " I guess we already installed them"

I have learned to NOT say "CAN THEY F*%&$K THIS UP ANY MORE?"
because every time I say it, the find a new way to screw it up LOL.

I'm just tired of sending the old kits back.... I'm paying myself upwards of $20/hr to be a shipping clerk!!!!!!

And nothing else is getting done....i havn't done a light core return, or a MRP return since April.

I bet that's true at a lot of GM dealerships. The parts departments (and perhaps the service departments) are so overwhelmed dealing with the ignition switch fiasco that other important work gets postponed.

I just sent back the last cylinder under the recall that I was required to. I do not have an exact count, (yet) but it's around 500. The last one I marked in purple "Good Riddance to bad Rubbish" and over the Purple BAD, I wrote GM in blue......

heh, made me feel better.

Justice Department investigators have identified criminal wrongdoing in General Motors' (GM) failure to disclose its defective ignition switch tied to at least 104 deaths and are negotiating what is expected to be a record penalty, NYT reports. A final settlement number is still being negotiated but is expected to exceed the $1.2B paid last year by Toyota (NYSE:TM) for concealing unintended acceleration problems in its vehicles.

Call me a skeptic, but the latest headlines just sound like a PR campaign by the Government and an opportunity to shake more money out of GM as they negotiate a settlement.

It's not like the government just found the smoking gun - they have exactly the same information now that they've had for the past year.

To be clear, I'm not defending GM for their handling of the ignition switch fiasco - I think they did a poor job and people died as a result of their incompetence. That said, I think governmental agencies are using this case to try to justify their existence and increase the amount of money they can extract out of GM.
