Honda Powersports Dealer fined $125K by NHTSA for selling recalled bikes
A report in USA Today indicates the NHTSA has settled with a Tennessee Honda Powersports Dealership for $125,000 because the dealership sold motorcycles without performing outstanding recalls. Here's a link to the report - click here
The report indicates the dealership, Southern Honda Powersports, failed to inspect or repair 329 motorcycles with existing recalls before retailing the bikes between 2007 and 2012. The report also indicates the dealership is the largest powersports dealer in the nation and the USA Today investigated the dealership last year. Part of me wonders, did NHTSA go after this dealer because it was the nation's top volume dealer or was it one of the worst offenders as it related to selling motorcycles with recalls? I also wonder why the dealership didn't perform the recalls prior to selling the motorcycles? I wonder if the 329 bikes were Hondas or competitive make bikes? While I'm guessing there's more to this story, the one message that's very clear is there's going to be increased pressure to make sure that dealers do not sell vehicles (new or used) with existing recalls. |
