Default Warning - Mopar Accessory Seat Covers may not be compatible with Air Bag Seats

A good customer just purchased a new truck which has seat side airbags. He purchased a Mopar seat cover after being assured by 3 seperate people at Chrysler that it was made to work with the air bags. We were skeptical so we asked for that in writing which they would not do but they directed us to the maker of the seat cover. Again we were assured it was designed to work but when we asked for that it in writing we got an email from a specialist that said there is no part number though Mopar or any of their aftermarket programs that accomadate airbags. Buyer be ware

You won't get anyone from Chrysler to write anything like that. To do so would be dangerous from a liability standpoint. Plausible deniability!

I was told by both a DOM and BC manager in the early 2000's to never trust the spoken word...if it isn't written it doesn't matter.

I guess the handshake is dead. That quote has to make you feel good about doing business with them. At least they told you the truth, but in some instances even the written word is not good.

I was raised that a man was only as good as his word. If a man's word means nothing what does that say about the man and the people who hired them?

Thanks for the information - that's good information to know.

Is Katzkin the vendor for the seat cover? I remember Mopar used Katzkin in the past as a way for a dealer to upgrade cloth seats to leather by replacing the seat covers.

Concerning the side airbag issue, I think that's been an issue in the past with another OEM who sold seat covers through their parts division. As I recall the message was seat covers shouldn't be installed on airbag seats because it's unlikely the required safety testing was ever done to approve the modification.

Thanks for the update.

On a different note, would you mind if I changed the title of this thread? I was thinking about changing it to something that would make it easier for Google to index.

Chrysler, and probably others, will only put the very bare essentials in any written form. Over the years there has been several issues at the Dealership, and even on the BBDO Ad Board, where they just would not "sign" anything.

But, not to worry, Mr. Press assured us they keep "phone logs"! What a joke.

Default Title Change

Sure XDCX, Do whatever you feel is best. To continue the confusion. I have a written statement from Covercraft that says they do not offer an airbag compatible cover but the customer called them and they said they did and he should go to their website to order?????

Concerning the latest part of your saga, I hate it when customers get conflicting information that makes it appear their dealer is misguided. It's also nice to hear the vendor was happy to cut your dealership out of the deal by suggesting the customer order the seat cover directly from their own website.

For all the money Chrysler's spent mystery shopping and micro-managing their dealers, I've often wondered if they've even spent a dime mystery shopping their vendors?
