Costco's competition here is all corporately owned, no Mom and Pop stores, no retailers without wholesale distribution.

The only time I pass on the lowest posted price, is the trip to the local Kroger to use up "bonus points" in exchange for discounts off the pump price. Yesterday, I paid a net 57 cents a gallon for 35 gallons. (I always take a 5 gallon can along, so I will not miss that 35 gallon maximum.)

$1.50-ish for regular in central Indiana. Diesel around $2.00.

There are no mom-and-pop stores here either. In fact, one of the largest chains in Indiana is based just down the road from our dealership, so in our town they sometimes have locations on multiple corners of the same intersection.

It's interesting to reflect that mom-and-pop stores are mostly non-existent - I guess the consolidation that we've seen in the retail car business is no different than what's happened to gas stations, hardware stores, convenience stores, grocery stores, etc.

Here's a picture - maybe this price level will be commonplace in the near future...?

Well, not even two weeks later and gas at $1.49 is no longer surprising - Costco has their price at $1.47.

I wonder how long gas will stay at this level since it almost always goes up in the spring and summer months?

Gas prices continue to fall in the Phoenix area - a nearby Sam's club shows gas for $1.31 per gallon.

Well, $1.31 pretty much marked the low point for the Phoenix market and prices have risen by 10 - 15 cents per gallon since then. While no one likes to see higher prices, it's hard to complain when gas is below $1.50 per gallon.

Additionally, it could be worse, I could be in California and getting screwed over because the refineries are supposedly switching over to their "summer blend" and that's causing price spikes.

Due to crude prices, Gas up to $1.99 over weekend (Costco at $1.69).

Dropped to $1.85 this morning, (Costco at$1.65).

Costco to $1.69 at noon.

That's not as bad as I thought it would be. I read a headline a week or so ago that suggested that prices would spike due to the switch from winter gas to summer gas.

Drove from Chicago back home to Indianapolis today:

$2.09 was the going rate in the Chicago suburbs
$1.99 here in the Indianapolis suburbs

Regular and diesel are about at parity for the first time in a while.

Wow, about a month later and gas prices are up between 40 and 60 cents per gallon. While it was common to see prices for regular in the $1.30s now it's common to see prices in the $1.80s or higher.

I figured the sub-$1.50 prices wouldn't last for long but I didn't expect they'd be this short-lived.

A week later and the price increases continue...

$1.80 would seem like a bargain this week - even Costco and Sam's Club are at $1.93 and $1.94 respectively. Most of the other gas stations are between $2.00 and $2.15.
