Chrysler Dealer Meeting in Orlando
Automotive News is reporting that Chrysler will hold its first National Dealer Meeting in three years in Orlando later this year. The final date has not been released yet. (The last meeting must have been at the beginning of the Cerberus acquisition?)
I'd been hearing the meeting was scheduled for Las Vegas so I was somewhat surprised to hear the meeting was going to be in Orlando. I think it's a great thing Chrysler's scheduled a National Dealer Meeting and I hope they take the opportunity to address Factory/Dealer relations. Any bets on whether Marchionne's going to finally make an appearance? |

A dealer I know on dealer counsel told me last week that the discussion was on going to Atlantic City in September. Just love the correct flow infomation.

It is kind of comical sometimes.....
Concerning the date, my bet is the meeting won't happen until Chrysler's announced who the new Fiat dealers are going to be. I doubt they'd want a National Dealer Meeting if the issue of who was going to get the Fiat franchises was still in play. |

The meeting is in Orlando on Sept. 14th. No details as to how many days or is it a fly in and fly out or whatever.
I won't be going, it is not worth my time to listen to the home office dance around the issues. |

I've read that Marchionne's been butting-heads with the unions in Italy regarding changes he's demanding to increase efficiency. I guess his management style is more confrontational than what the Chrysler dealers have been exposed to in the past. Maybe that explains why he's never met with the dealers despite being the CEO of Chrysler for the past year? |

Or at least trying to keep most of us from attending the event. My wife and I have a 5 night vacation booked at a 5-star all-inclusive resort near Cancun that costs less than this 2 night stay in Florida.

The cost is ridiculous and am not going now unless they reduce this.

It is nothing but another typical Chrysler rip off. I do not know how they can get away with charging their best customer to attend a one day preview to look at vehicles that they will sell us. They should be providing the event for free. $900.00 bucks if you show up at the door and you have your own hotel. 4 Star hotel rooms in Orlando are dirt cheap right now, especially during the beginning of Sept. which is not considered to be high season for tourists. A breakfast, a crummy lunch and a dinner to listen to Sergio (short for Sir-gerkio) tell us how bad we are. I am not going. I can wait for the cars to show up in my lot. I don't need to spend 2 grand to have a few drinks with Chrysler people that don't know thier retail a _ _ from a hole in the ground. These people are on serious drugs. I remember when Iacocca introduced the Grand Cherokee in Detroit in 93. Chrysler paid for everything, air fare, hotels, meals, everything. That was when they needed us.

Moparguy, its funny you brought up the '93 Jeep meeting. My Dad and I went and had a really great time. Those were good days to be in the car biz. One thing I remember was the snow, and there was lots of it!

Moparguy, I would change one thing in your last sentance "That was when they KNEW they needed us" That 93 meeting was a hoot, I think I was on the last plane to land. People all over the airport, missed the bus to the hotel and had to take a limo that got stuck and we had to push it out. Missed the bus to the Chrysler center, so a dealer from Temecula CA and I went to the resturant and had steaks......we signed Lee Iacocca on the bill. Those were the days!
