New Guy Parts Manager from Kansas
Hello everyone! Parts Manager for a Buick/GMC (formerly Pontiac) dealership in Kansas. Been in the automotive dealership plane of existance for close to 20 years. Started changing oil, then apprenticed with a techinician, and wound up in parts. Looking forward to soaking up some good information.

Joker - Welcome to the forum - it's great to have a new member who posts an introduction.
The forum's been somewhat quiet lately but we have a lot of great members with a lot of experience. |

Where do all the Parts Managers come from?

That said, I've often wondered how so many Parts Managers find DealershipForum? I've noticed lately that the majority of the non-Chrysler members who join the forum are Parts Managers. How do they find the forum - is it something other than Google? |

Keep in mind. Sales may sell the first car or truck, but Service and Parts are what keep the customer coming back for the second and third and so on. A strong service and parts operation that is customer focused on solving problems will always pay for itself and then some over the years, yet most dealer principals and general managers will always side with the sales side of the street. Keep in mind, your service advisors will interact with as many as 10 times or more customers on a daily to day basis than your the average sales person. Check your phone logs and you will see that the phone rings 3-4 times more in service than in sales, and parts has a simular story. Service and Parts never seem to get the recognition that they deserve. Fixed ops is the unsung hero's of the dealership and yet the sales staff get the rewards of cash and trips from the home office. I am sorry to say this, but new car salesmen are lazy and overpaid.

I just checked your website and noticed your store stocks almost 350 New Cars - that's pretty impressive. I'm guessing the Parts Department is pretty big too. The forum's been a little quiet lately but there's a good group of people here and there are some really knowledgeable Parts Managers. Thanks for joining the forum and feel free to post-up if you have any questions or comments. |
