Default Chrysler Reman Motors

We have had several Chrysler Reman motors fail very prematurely in the last several weeks. 3.8L minivan motors in particular. Also they seem very difficult to obtain. Our service DM seems powerless to help. Anybody else seeing this?

That's an interesting question.

I know in the past that Chrysler used to have issues with some of their reman vendors - especially the A604 transmission. But in fairness, that was several years ago.

As DealershipForum.com grows I want to have more Service and Parts Managers as members so there are more people that can respond to this type of question.

Thanks again for the question - sorry I don't have a more knowledgeable answer.

We have had a lot of issues with almost all engines new or reman after 07 most are 3.8's and most are burning oil. Although I went to pull a new wrangler in the other day with a 3.6 in it and when I was walking to the jeep I remote started it and it was also burning oil and only had 12,000 miles on it. Good to see job security isn't going anywhere when you work at a Chrysler dealer !!!!

Default 3.8 liter reman

I still have a long block from my termination days. Must say it hasn't used any oil...............yet!! We'll see when it comes out of the crate which may be on the antiques road show.

That seems odd - I haven't heard anything about oil consumption issues with the Pentastar V6. In fact, with the efficiency of today's cat converters I think it takes significant oil consumption before any smoke appears out of the tailpipe.

The only vehicle I've read about lately that has a documented oil consumption issue is the BMW M5 from 2000 - 2004. Apparently the engineers at BMW wanted to increase the power of the M5's engine by using low tension piston rings. A thread I read on a BMW forum indicated that owners use 10W60 oil in an effort to minimize consumption.
