Default A new open point for VW in the Palm Springs area

After being awarded an open point from Volkswagen for Cathedral City, we successfully facilitated a partnership between Mike Murphy and a long-time car dealer, Allen Holzhauer.

Mike Murphy currently owns several dealerships in Oakland, California including a VW store.

Allen Holzhauer has owned many dealerships over the years in Illinois, Saint Louis, Arizona and California.

Allen will act as the operating/financial partner of the dealership.

The dealership has just opened in December in a temporary facility, operating out of the old Saturn location in the auto mall. The plans are to relocate to a brand new Volkswagen “White Frame” building by August 2013. The new facility will be built across the street and will be in-line with Volkswagen’s most recent facility requirements.

Best wishes for Mike and Allen to turn this open point into a huge success.

Moshe,

Congratulations on another successful transaction for Performance Brokerage Services.

I don't know whether you'll be able to share any details concerning this transaction but I'm intrigued because I don't think I've ever heard of a broker offering this type of service before.

Concerning the partnership between Mr. Murphy and Mr. Holzhauer, did they know one another prior to their business arrangement or did they meet through Performance Brokerage Services?

Concerning partnership agreements, is this a common service offered by Performance Brokerage Services?

Concerning Open Points for the various OEMs, is there any service that Performance Brokerage Services can offer to dealers or perspective dealers who are looking to secure a new franchise?

Scott,

Thank you for the kind words.

Unfortunately I can’t share any details of the transaction itself. It is a private deal.

Palm Springs area NEEDED a second point. The new store will be built right across the street, next to the new Audi and Subaru dealerships.

Yes, this is a service that we provide, however, not too often. We have done similar transactions of open points probably a dozen times over the years.

As for partnerships in general, it has been an integral part of our services. We introduce dealers to one another, facilitate and help form partnerships rather often. We have just done so 3 weeks ago in Tracy, CA as well.

As for the VW point - Mr. Murphy and Mr. Holzhauer did not know one another. We introduced the two to form the business arrangement.

As other business fundamentals, this one is not different: we leverage our relationships of 21 years, being proactive in the trenches daily, be in the right place in the right time and seize the opportunity.

Moshe,

Thanks for the information and I totally understand your need to keep details concerning the transaction confidential.

What I was most interested in learning was whether the two business partners knew one another or whether they met through Performance Brokerage Services.

It's interesting to learn that Performance Brokerage Services has a history of bringing business partners together and it's a service you're able to provide. I imagine that's a service that would be a great fit for a dealer who's looking to expand his/her operations or a dealer who's looking forward to retirement and wanting to structure a buy-in/buy-out.

I was in a 20 group with Allen Holzhauer back in the late 1980's.

He used to own the C/P store in Mobile AL and a CPD store in Milton FL back then.

If I remember correctly both his son and daughter each had Buick deals in ILL back then when they were both in their early twenties.

I am always amazed at how many people you know in the car business.
