Default Chrysler's December sales fall by only 3.7%

Since one of my New Year's resolutions was to try and be more positive, I decided to title this thread with the fact that Chrysler's December sales results represented a decline of only 3.7% over last December - far better than the rest of 2009.

Here's a link to the news report - click here

The fact that it was the worst year for Chrysler since 1962 cannot be escaped.

I haven't had a chance to study the results yet - I wonder how much of the positive new can be attributed to fleet sales?

CNBC just reported Chrysler down 10.9%. The devil is in the details.

Interesting.

I just checked out their website and figured out the reason for the disparity - "CNBC reports monthly auto sales on an adjusted basis that accounts for the number of selling days in the month."

It appears that the number of days Chrysler included in their 2009 sales report is higher than the number used in 2008. To the extent that Phil LeBeau has a Midwest bias, he may be excluding Sundays as selling days?

I was wondering about that too.

I did a quick search of the forum and discovered that Chrysler's sales for December, 2008 had fallen 53% from the prior year. Here's a link to the thread on the forum - click here

I'm trying to be positive but it's pretty hard when Chrysler can't manage to report a sales increase over such a bad month last year.

“Chrysler's limping finish to 2009 and dim prospects to start the new year are underscored by this simple fact: when full-year results are tallied, the company will sell less than 1 million units in the U.S. for the first time since 1962.”

I sincerely hope they turn this around soon!

Well, I can say November the Dealer Connect site had Chrysler at 66,000 units...December, 44,000. Those are their own figures. I think that shows it all. Positive or negative, it was a grim month.

Used cars. Whoever said there was real money in new cars? Sounds great when you're at dealer meetings but what counts is how much money gets deposited at month's end.

I'm glad to read that December was up.

I hadn't heard about that. I've got to admit that's pretty funny - what a shot.

I remember the old days when Hyundai used to be the butt of all the car jokes on Late Night TV. How the world has changed......

That's probably the correct answer.

If Chrysler's reporting 86,000 total sales and DealerConnect is showing 44,000 NVDRS that means fleet sales must have been about 42,000 units.

Default West BC Sales Report

According to the December Sales Report for the West BC, 32 NVDRs is strong enough to put you on the front page and 50% of the dealers in the BC sold 16 or fewer vehicles for the month.

Both numbers are an improvement over November when 25 NVDRs would put you on the front page and 50% of the dealers sold 12 or fewer vehicles.

December may not have been a great month, but at least it looked better for the West BC dealers than November did.
