Default "Orderly Bankrupcty" is on the list of White House options

The possibility of bankruptcy for GM and Chrysler has resurfaced as the White House is looking at the option of an "Orderly Bankruptcy" among their list of bail-out alternatives.

Weeks ago this concept was floated as a "Pre-packaged Bankruptcy" but was dismissed when the Detroit 3 presented evidence that most Americans wouldn't purchase a vehicle from a bankrupt manufacturer.

While I'm no expert, the only reason I see Chapter 11 as an option for GM and Chrysler is if they intend to use bankruptcy to "short-pay" their creditors and sever their agreements with their dealers and the UAW.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I see any form of bankruptcy by GM and Chrysler as bad news for the dealer network.

Here's a link to the latest coverage by ABC News that mentions the "Orderly Bankruptcy" option: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Busin...6487512&page=1

Is it just me, or does anyone else get the impression that the dealers do not have a "voice" in this whole mess?

The Detroit 3, Cerberus and the UAW all have their representative and lobbyists pushing their agenda, but who's looking out for the dealers?

Is the NADA just standing aside or is it that there message isn't getting heard? What about the State Dealer Associations?

That's great - it's good to know that someone is speaking up for the dealers.

The impression that I get is that most of the dealer lobbying efforts are being coordinated by the OEMs. My bet is that the "orderly bankruptcy" debate will resurface in Washington DC in another 60 - 90 days and that the dealers and the OEMs will be on different sides of the debate.
