Unhappy American Motors AMX

I just missed buying a 1970 AMX off e-Bay. Makes me mad, I was soooo close!

Do you have a link? I'd love to see what you were bidding on.

On a side note, I was watching a Mecham Auction on Tivo last night and couldn't believe how cheap some of the cars were selling for.

I own a '69, it was my dad's demo in 1969. I got it in 1977 as a senior in high school. Bought it off the 2nd owner. I love the car, way cooler that the belly button Fords, Chevys and now Mopars. We were Nash then Rambler then AMC then Renault then all the different versions of Chrysler. Who would have thought when I was 49 that the manufacturer that we represented for 80 years would go tits up and we were the ones that would lose our franchise. Ah well I should get back to work and quit "RAMBLERING"........GET IT?

I don't know how to link it, but do advanced search of #220628680645.

It is a survivor AMX, close by, in Lubbock, Tx. This one is a '69. The 1970 just missed was more restored. This '69 was the best deal. I still looking, and will find one!!

Here's the link to the Ebay auction - click here

That looks like a nice AMX - I can't imagine there are too many still around with only 61K on the odometer.

A true AMX is a 2 seat muscle car built by American Motors in 1968, 69 and 70. From 1971 up the AMX was just an upgrade on a different platform, kind of like a Z28 is an upgraded Camaro. Quite rare, If my memory serves me there were less than 21,000 built through the 3 year run. To put that into perspective I believe there were more 1964 !/2 Mustangs built in the first 3 weeks of production than 2 seat AMX's combined.

The most sought after is the AMX, 390 V8, Factory "Go Pack". Some have factory AC, but many do not. They were American Motors answer to the "Pony Car" wars.

Possum, the rarest of the AMX's were the 24 Right hand drive ones built in Australia. I think that 24 is the correct number. I think that there are only 3 known to exist today. Then there are the 52 SS/AMX's that were built for Super Stock Drag racing. Not street legal from the factory. Kind of like the Drag Challanger that Dodge just came out with. I missed buying an SS when I was a junior in high school, dad said no. OH to go back in time!

In High School, I had a '73 Gremlin X.... 3 speed on the floor, V8 under the hood...

I replaced the clutch with a Purple Zoom, and my dad made me put wheelie bars on the car after he saw me launch it and hold a wheelie up past 3 of our neighbor's houses...

So, lets get to the hard part.
What is a pristine AMX, 390, worth in this market?

I can't answer what a AMX is worth but I was watching a recent Mecham Auction on Tivo and noticed the Hemi E-bodies had dropped by 50% or more from their historic highs.

I don't know whether it's the economy or the increased popularity of resto-mods but people don't seem to be bidding up the numbers-matching low mileage vehicles like they used to.
