KIA - One of 10 Brands that may disappear in 2011
In the category of "you can't always believe what you read on the Internet" KIA has been listed as one of the 10 brands that may disappear in 2011. The list was compiled by 24/7 Wall St. and widely reported on Yahoo. For a link to the full report - click here
While I tend to agree with many of the other brands named in their report, I'm convinced the staff at 24/7 Wall St. is dead wrong when it comes to KIA. Frankly, I think the approach that has been taken with Hyundai/KIA is brilliant and I can see it "morphing" into a Lexus/Toyota model within the next 10 years. |

Don't belive this list. Read one on MSN.com and it was for 2020 it had Blockbuster listed on both list but it did not list kia. Here is the link for the msn article http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...20.aspx?page=1
KIA Gone in 2011 might happen might not...Just don't belive everything you read on the internet. |

That's so true.....
I read the list in the link you provided and agree that MSN has a better grasp of the future than 24/7 Wall St. does. Concerning KIA, not only do I think they'll survive, I'm convinced they'll prosper and continue to gain market share. |

There's an article on kia-world.net that states that in Korea since the launch of the new Kia K5 (will be the Optima in NA) at the end of last May, it has outsold the Hyundai Sonata, which was previously the best selling car in the country. That's in Korea, Hyunday & Kia's 'home' market. That's a big deal; and if you look at the styling of the new Sonata compared to that of the new K5/Optima, you'll understand why. The new Kia product line up (3rd-gen vehicles designed by Peter Schreyer, formerly of Audi) is absolutely gorgeous. They'll be just fine.

I don't think these guys are going away.
YTD in the U.S. KIA out sells.
Quotes below from wikipedia.org: “Kia Motors Corporation (KMC) was founded in 1944, is Korea's oldest manufacturer of motor vehicles and is now a division of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group. Over 1.5 million vehicles a year are produced in 13 manufacturing and assembly operations in eight countries which are then sold and serviced through a network of distributors and dealers covering 172 countries. Kia today has over 42,000 employees worldwide and annual revenues of over US$14.6 billion. Currently Hyundai Motor Company owns less than 40% of the company. For 2009, Kia Motors America recorded its 15th consecutive year of increased U.S. market share.” |

I agree - I don't think the people at 24/7 Wall St. put too much thought into their selection of KIA as a brand that might disappear. I doubt they'd be able to find anyone in the industry who would agree with their prediction.
On a side note, I thought it was interesting that Hyundai only owns 40% of KIA - I always thought it was 100% |

I read the article and think that they are wrong as well. This might have been true years ago when Hyundai and Kia were producing clones of each other's cars, but not now. We have distinct products and lineups. GM had Pontiac but mostly Pontiac sold rebadged Chevy models. That is why it was scrapped in the bankrupcy. Kia is thriving and gaining market share.

If Kia disapears in 2011, I will make my next vehicle a Chrysler product.

SHACOS, your safe, KIA is not going anywhere but up.
Chrysler should be so good as KIA, 2011 might be their last. |

I might just get myself a little Kia. Given that I have enough head room in it.

I just read on Kdealer about the new Sportage. The 2011 model will have a 66% risidual and tied the BMW and Subaru for the best risidual. This is unheard of and a sure sign that Kia isn't going anywhere. We will be rolling these out at cheap lease prices and picking up market share. All they have to do is provide the product. Let's hope all goes smoothly and that we all make more money!
