Gas prices in California are crazy.

I'm currently taking a quick trip to Havasu and staying at a Casino on the Colorado River that requires me to drive through Needles, CA to get there. The gas prices in Needles are at least $1.00/gallon more that what they are in Arizona.

I know it has something to do with the higher CA gas taxes and the added expense refineries incur blending a special fuel for CA to minimize emissions but it still looks like a rip off to me.

Wow, that's a big jump and moving in the wrong direction.

I just read a week or so ago that the "experts" were predicting gas would be below $2.00/gallon by Christmas - I wonder what the explanation is for the big price bump you incurred?

On a different note, I wonder what percentage of new car dealership have a fuel station on site? If I had to guess my bet would be it's only 2% - 3%.

Default Gas prices have been falling - currently $2.55 - 2.75 in Phoenix

I've noticed that gas prices (and especially diesel prices) have been falling in the Phoenix area over the past few weeks.

Gas at Costco is $2.55/gallon and most of the other stations in the area are selling gas for $2.65 - $2.75.

I've got a Road Trip to Seattle planned for the end of this week - it will be interesting to see the fluctuation in gas prices as I make my way up the coast.

Default So amazed, I had to take a picture....

OK, you might ask why I was so amazed that I had to take a picture of a Diesel Pump at an Arco Station....

.
The picture was taken in Oregon.
.
Oregon is one of only two states in the nation that does not allow people to pump their own gas. (New Jersey is the other state.)
.
I've never seen a Self-Serve pump in Oregon and was unaware that there must be an exception for Diesel pumps.

Default Gas was $1.99 at Costco in the Phoenix area

I noticed that regular gas was selling for $1.99 at Costco in the Phoenix area the other day. I almost wonder if Costco is selling gas at a loss just to hit that price point since most stations are still in the $2.15 to $2.25 range.

Diesel prices remain below regular gas prices at almost all stations.

The Costco price has dropped to $1.97 and the $1.99 price has become very common throughout the Phoenix area.

As before, I'm guessing that Costco was subventing their gas two weeks ago to hit the $1.99 price point and now wholesale prices have fallen enough that other stations are able to sell gas for $1.99 and still make a profit.

Default Mixed signals....

The gas price at a nearby station recently increased from $1.99 to 2.09 almost overnight but Costco just lowered their price from $1.97 to $1.94.

Not sure why there's a mixed signal but I tend to believe that Costco goes through so much gas that their prices tend to be more reflective of what the actual wholesale market is for gas at any point in time.

I guess I will see soon, if Costco can "make the market"! First one opens on Wednesday. Local stations have been matching Wal-Mart's brand ( Murphy Express @ $2.14 ) for months, with pricing about 20 cents lower than the stations a half mile away from the area. Costco is less than 4 blocks from the Murphy Express.

Interesting, a local out of the way Sunoco in a "stop and steal" market, prices theirs below them all, EXCEPT today is $2.26 (2 cents below it's nearby competition), but as you can see, way above the Murphy's....

Always, I drive to the lowest price, shown on my "GAS BUDDY" app.

My bet is Costco will be aggressive with pricing if they're launching a new store or a new station. It's no secret that Costco makes most of their money on membership fees so it would make sense to "cheap sell" some gasoline for a period of time to attract new members.

To be clear, I'm not anti-Costco. I think it's a great option for people who spend enough to cover the membership fees and I've also heard that Costco treats their employees well so that's a plus too.

I've noticed that Google has added gas prices to their Android version of their Maps app. The implementation is still somewhat crude and the app doesn't provide as much info as Gas Buddy but Google products tend to get better with each revision so it will be interesting to see how it progresses.

I'm still using my Gas Buddy app - it can be a real money saver - especially when I'm on a road trip.

Default Gas was $1.85 in the Tucson area last week

I took a mini road trip last week and headed to Tucson to watch the Utah/U of A football game.

I was surprised to see a gas station off of Highway 10 advertising gas for $1.85 - that's about 20 cents/gallon less than the going rate in Phoenix.

Based on what I've read gas prices are expected to continue to fall for the rest of the year and may reach $1.50/gallon in some markets by year end.

Here in suburban Indianapolis regular unleaded can be found for $1.80 or less today... I wasn't at the dealership at all today, but I imagine it is probably still over $2 since we are located directly off an exit...
