Default Key ring RECALL helping or hurting?

Any service departments taking advantage of this huge mess? I mean I realize this is a huge pita but this should be a huge opportunity for us. Cars that we havent seen in months, poss years come back to the dealer. I was just curious if any service managers out there are taking advantage of this. Service specials? etc.

Default Hurting

Most of these people haven't ever been here, they are angry because we don't have parts for their deathtrap, and when they finally come in, they are aghast to find that all we are doing in glueing a wedge in their keys.

The Camaro people are pissed, because 90% of them do NOT want the seperate key, they want the switchblade.

We found out during the 13454/14063/14092 that you can do a checklist on these cars, and they wad it up and throw it down as they get in their crapbox to leave. Upsells were limited to maybe transmitters, and that was very few. I'd say the upsells total was way less than 5%.

The Camaro people can opt out of the recall - we've had several that want to keep their switchblade. There is an op code for opting out

As far as upsells, same as tnpartsguy. They come in thinking they're getting their cylinder replaced and we play legos with their keys instead

Opt Out code is gone. We got a stern letter from our DSM that we should NOT discuss not doing the recall with the customer, it brought us into a liability situation. Bottom line, little children, you will do what papa GM demands.

They are now recalling all the G8's and Caprice PPV's to have their keys lombotimized. Wonder when they will get to my Terrain?

Our clerk just told me she read today that she can claim 21 cents per RO in NET to cover it. We just started our first purchased tube this morning so from now on she'll be claiming the 21 cents LOL

It's killing us! We cant keep up with the infiltration of customers and phone calls. Our service dept. is blowing them out the door as fast as they come in with no check overs. Fricking drives me nuts! If were going to have them here at least do a MPVI, rather then waste my time for 90 cents worth of parts.
We have the Service manager, 1 senior SA, and one young green pea SA that has never been in the auto industry. 10 techs and 4 oil change techs. Seems that were understaffed by a couple good SA's.

Im with you TORGY I see this as a chance to make some big time $$$ with people coming back to dealer who havent been here in years. If we can sell a set of blades or an air filter to each of them

These techs are not interested in bringing a vehicle into the shop, raising it up on a lift, opening the hood, pulling a couple of wheels, and doing a MPVI along with fitting and glueing inserts for a measly .4. They fail to see the opportunity to sell other work or maybe they see that 95% of these people are just here to get the "free" work done and are already upset they are not getting new keys, ignition lock cylinders, steering columns, cars, etc. Most of the people that come in think this recall is going to fix the problem of their car not starting that has been happening for the last 6 months.

Pretty much the same here. The customer comes in so we can give them a glue job. May get the odd LOF out of them, but that's about it.
