Default How is your Genesis coupe inventory?

A lot of dealers in different HMA regions are saying they do not and have not had any Genesis coupes on the ground during the past few months.

There has been talk about an "R" spec Genesis coupe with the H.O. V-8 from the "R" Genesis sedan being built as a competitor for the Camaro/Challenger/Mustang/350z etc.

I feel since the Genesis coupe is selling for everyone, HMA should build the "R" spec coupe to further build further brand image in the Genesis class cars currently offered.

The fact that Dodge bailed on NASCAR along with several recognized transmission problems with the Mustang and Challenger during the past two model years could bring some upscale gearhead types into the showroom wanting to buy this car.

Thanks for trying - I know it's tricky to post pictures on the forum.

When I post pictures I upload the picture to TinyPic.com and then "paste" the IMG Code into the thread.

In the alternative, you can just send me the picture to my xdcx@dealershipforum.com address and I'll add it to the thread for you.

Great job on posting the pictures....

Also, thanks for the link to the Hyundai webpage - I had no idea that Hyundai had a V8 for their Genesis vehicles that was capable of almost 430 Horsepower.

Back to your original point, while I'm convinced Hyundai could build a car that's a worthy competitor to the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger I'm not sure there would be too many buyers standing in line - even if the Hyundai was a superior vehicle. Mostly I think it would be a brand/heritage issue.

Part of me thinks Hyundai needs to launch a more premium brand in the U.S. and then another part of me looks at Nissan's Infiniti brand and remembers how hard it is to launch a new brand in the U.S. (Even Honda's Acura brand could be argued to be non-relevant at this point.)

I know Hyundai has some big plans for the future but I question how far they can push the brand.

The responses to the Chrysler Cuda project may give further reason for HMA to build this car.. As it is, this car already exists in the product portfolio but without the desired V-8 that the other competitive makes do have for sale.

The point here is that HMA can not keep Genesis coupes in inventory nationally, the car is selling extremely well.. Why not do this car and not leave anything on the table..

I follow your point and agree it would make sense for Hyundai to add the V8 to the Genesis Coupe and make it something of a "halo car" for the brand. I'm just not sure there are too many Mustang/Camaro/Challenger customers who would cross-shop the Genesis.

That said, a Genesis Coupe with a V8 could still be a strong seller even if the buyers were people who were not attracted to the muscle cars from the Detroit 3. My bet is a Genesis Coupe with a V8 would more likely attract a younger buyer who doesn't identify with the Detroit 3 muscle cars from the 70s. That's a big (and growing) market and one that all OEMs hope to attract to their brand.

Most of the "youth" today do not shop the domestics anymore.. This is now common most of the coastal states in the U.S. The parents of this demographic were the first to move to Toyota, Honda, etc and never went back to domestic vehicles after that purchase. Nissan has loyal 350z (6cyl) customers, Toyota does not build a Supra anymore, the Conquest (I sold more than anyone in my zone) is long gong.. Even at a limited production number this car would help solidify any misconception a Big 3 buyer would have about the brand, and make the "R" spec coupe very highly sought after merchandise.

Default Motor Trend July 2010

Mustang V6
Camaro V6
Challenger V6
Hyundai Genesis Coupe Track V6

The Genie ran away with it. Imagining a V8 version of the new car makes my mouth water.
