Default Dealership promotion - ‘If Texas scores zero, you pay zero’”

I just read a story about a dealer group in Alabama that tied a vehicle sales promotion to tonight's BCS Championship. The concept was simple, if Alabama shuts out Texas your car is free - this was their pitch line - ‘If Texas scores zero, you pay zero.’

Here's a link to the full news report - click here

The promotion was a huge success, the dealer reported that 60% of the customers who bought a car did so because of the promotion. In fact, the promotion was so successful the dealer had to end it early because he reached the cap of his $3 Million insurance policy.

According to the experts, the odds of a Texas shutout are small - there's never been a shutout in a BCS Championship.

I wonder what the dealer had to pay for his insurance premium? If the odds were 100 to 1 the policy would only be about $30K - not bad if it helps you sell 111 vehicles.

He is safe.

Texas will not be shutout! Its a great idea for a sale, but it will be bitter after the Texas win !

I was hoping you'd respond to this thread.

I figured you were so loyal to Texas Football that you may have been the one underwriting the insurance policy.

Wow, that policy almost had to pay! I guess the Insurance Co would have allowed for the possibility of a Freshman QB in the game. I wonder if the Vegas Oddsmakers cringed?

I was thinking the same thing when McCoy left the game with his injury - I didn't think Texas would score another point.

It would have been awesome if Texas could have pulled off a come-back with a Freshman Quarterback at the helm - it could have happened. Oh well, it was still a great game to watch.
