Gas Tuesday went from $3.75 to $3.99 at most stations. 2 reasons for $.50/gallon increase over last few weeks in our area.
1. BP refinery in Whiting, IN had an oil spill a couple of weeks ago, dumping oil into Lake Michigan, which is major source of water for Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana. 2. Typical price gouging for holiday. |

I was passing through West Virginia yesterday and saw prices in the $3.20 range... diesel was the customary $4 though, which is seems to be everywhere! Good thing the new Grand Cherokee diesel gets 28 mpg !

I think $4/gallon is a psychological barrier and once prices reach that level many consumers start looking for ways to lower their consumption to save money. That means fewer miles driven or switching to cars that get higher gas mileage. |

$4 is a psychological barrier for sure, although when you need fuel you need fuel. On a roadtrip last week diesel varied from $3.74 to $4.49... both the extreme highs and lows were both in West Virginia.
I won't complain though -- the 2014 Diesel Grand Cherokee managed 30 MPG average (hand calculated) over a 1,500 mile drive! |

Paid $3.81 in the Seattle area
My TJ was running on fumes and it was time for a fill-up. I paid $3.81 at a Safeway Gas Station in the Seattle area. The cash price for regular was $3.71.
On the plus side I had a 40 cent discount/gallon built up on my Safeway Rewards Card so that lowered the price to $3.41. |

After two weeks at $4.13 we are down two cents to $4.11 in Central CA. On the news this morning they reported that oil production and supplies are up so prices should be dropping soon, the report estimated the national average could drop to $2.50 over the summer!

Maybe I'm a skeptic but I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not convinced there's perfect competition in the oil market and it seems like it's too easy to manipulate the wholesale price using contracts on the futures market. |

Gas is $3.81 in the Seattle area
Gas prices are still creeping upward in the Seattle area - most of the stations I drive by are selling gas for $3.81 or higher.
I just checked GasBuddy and noticed that the price of gas in the Phoenix area is on $3.37 - that's one of the widest spreads between the two markets I've ever seen. |

Gas is $3.77 in the Seattle area
Despite all of the news concerning Iraq, the price of gasoline in Seattle has been pretty stable. I bought gas at Sam's Club for my old W150 last week and paid $3.77 gallon.

Fourth of July Gas Prices are at a six year high
News reports indicate that largely due to concerns with Iraq and the Middle East, gasoline prices for the Fourth of July holiday are at a six year high. Here's a link to the full report - click here
On the good news front, none of the experts are expecting gas prices to rise to the $5.00/gallon mark. The increased production of oil in North America has lessened the impact that conflict in the Middle East has on domestic gasoline prices. |

Saw on the news this morning that the national average for a gallon of unleaded is $3.67. So I took an informal poll of the gas stations here in central California I passed on the way to work and the average of 11 stations was $4.14. ranged from $4.03 to $4.23.
