"We wanted to have more of a McDonald's approach...."
I couldn't let the quote in Automotive News from GM's Tim Turvey, executive director of customer care and aftersales, go without comment.
Here's Mr. Turvey's quote: "We wanted to have more of a McDonald's approach to make sure we have a certain core group of parts available to the consumer to fix their vehicle right then,"Here's a link to the full report in Automotive News - click here Mr. Turvey was referring to GM's new RIM Program that establishes a new form of two-tier pricing for the GM Part Departments by measuring dealer loyalty. I placed Mr. Turvey's quote in the Automotive Discussions section of the forum because I think he speaks for the vast majority of the OEMs that are pushing their dealer networks to adopt a McDonald's approach to franchising. In my opinion, GM, like most of the other OEMS, wants to have the same level of control over their dealers that McDonald's has with their restaurants. The only thing that makes Mr. Turvey's quote unique is the fact that he actually stated his vision publically. |

But in starting this program, it's lead to massive backorders; currently GM can't ship PF48 oil filters, they don't have any to ship. The PF48 fits most full-size GM V8 trucks built since 2007 to current. It's like if McDonalds couldn't supply it's resturants with french fries!!!

I guess GM just wants to be more like McDonald's when it comes to micro-managing their dealers but they don't want to have to run their operation like McDonald's does. |

Since they fired Mr Goodwrench a few years ago perhaps they can re-hire Henderson or Wagoner to dress up as a clown and the camburglar to sell some McFilters.
Wait I ordered a synthetic oil change and instead they gave me a coolant flush instead. At least with McDonalds if you burn your crotch in the drive through it can be rewarding.... Okay thats all I have.... Last edited by s-works; 04-27-2013 at 01:20 PM. |
