2016 Chevrolet Camaros begin to arrive at Dealerships

While the beginning of winter is probably not the best time to launch a new sports car I doubt that there are too many Chevrolet Dealers who are complaining.

A news report from the Lansing State Journal indicated that local dealerships have just started to receive the new 2016 model. The article was a feature story since General Motors moved production of the Camaro from Canada to the U.S. for the 2016 model - the first time a Camaro has been built in the U.S. since 1992. The Camaro is built in a GM plant in Lansing, MI.

I had a chance to look at the 2016 Camaro when I was at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas but I got kicked out the of building before I had a chance to get a good look. (Yes, I'm still a little bit bitter about that...)

Based on what I've read the 2016 Camaro is a worthy successor to the Camaro family and I like the fact the car has lost some of its bulk - the new model is smaller, lighter and sleeker.

It appears narrower, but otherwise not that different when compared side-by-side.

Thanks for the info - I guess I read so much about the lower weight of the 2016 Camaro I just assumed it was a smaller car overall.

It will be interesting to see how the 4 Cylinder Camaro sells. As I understand it the horsepower and performance of the 2.0 Turbo matches what the 5.7 Camaros were capable of in the late 80s to mid 90s.

By all accounts the 2016 Camaro is an awesome car. Based on what I've read it appears the power and ET times the car delivers are better than what GM released in their press documents.

I just read a recent report by Hot Rod magazine on the 2016 Camaro and they were running a 12.21 quarter mile with a 114 MPH trap speed and that was a stock car with stock tires. Interesting, the fastest car was the Camaro with the automatic transmission and the fastest times were achieved when the car was allowed to shift on its own as opposed to using the paddle shifters.

Having a Z06 as a track day car would be a blast. :shift:

The current era really is a great time for people who love performance cars. There are so many awesome cars available by many different OEMs.

I remember the performance era of the 70's peaked in 1971 and then dropped off a cliff. While I don't think there's any fear that cars with the level of performance of 1976 will reappear I do wonder if we'll look back on the current era and think of it as "the good old days."
