With Spring just around the corner, I was curious to learn if many of the forum members participated in off-sight sales or tent sales?

Here in Washington there's a promoter who coordinates several large events - mostly at shopping centers and fair grounds. I don't know what the buy-in fee is, but the events are heavily advertised.

I thought it was interesting that dealers in Lake County Florida were trying to get tent sales banned because they felt it allowed "outsiders" to cherry-pick their market. The County Commission voted to continue to allow the sales. (Part of me wondered if the $1800/day rent the promoter payed had any impact on their decision?)

Here's a link to the news report: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/community/news/fruitlandpark/orl-ltents2609feb26,0,6766669.story

So here's the question - Off-Sight Sales - Do you love them or hate them?

Never participated in one...my dealership used to prior to me coming on board..most of the salesman say they didn't like them..

I for one wouldn't like them....I prefer to sell my dealership from my dealership....in fact, part of the draw of my dealership is my dealership and the way it is set up...I think an off site sale would detract from that.

I have done them and I hate them, they take too much time to set up and tear down. In WI you can open yourself to a possible 3 day return after the sale, because the car was bought off sight.

Interesting, that fact alone would scare off most dealers.

There are 3 parts to the sale and then the customer can not come back wit the tree day return;
1) Customer comes to the lot and sees the vehicle.
2) Customer signs purchase agreement at Dealership.
3)Customer takes delivery at Dealership,( unless Native American Indian, then you have to deliver to Reservation at place of residence so they don't pay state tax )

Not everyone believes in totally observing theses rules.

Interesting, Washington State has the exact same law as it relates to Sales Tax on Native American vehicle sales. Since the tax rate is 9.5%+ in most areas it makes sense to do a Tribal Delivery - even for used cars.

The salespeople love it because most of the time the vehicles are delivered at a nearby Tribal Casino. :)
