I was shopping at my local WalMart yesterday and was surprised when I saw a Mopar Oil Filter on the shelf.

I knew that Ford and GM had the ability to circumvent their dealers when it came to selling parts but I always thought Chrysler limited their direct sale of parts to the U.S. Government.

Who knows, maybe WalMart's buying them through a dealer?

It's not a huge deal but I thought it was strange. If Chrysler is selling directly to WalMart that could be a "slippery slope." We've already witnessed what they're willing to do to their dealers when they launched their recent Service Contract promotion.

Pretty sure this one’s old news (almost 2yrs). Dealer in Little Rock AK (Walmart HQ area) fix’d-up this arrangement. Filters are being purchased thru the dealer and then onto Walmart shelves. I heard few months back this program may extend beyond just the filters.

So that happened two years ago - I guess I haven't been paying too much attention when I shop at WalMart. :)

I'm happy to hear that it's a dealer that's selling the parts to WalMart - I'd hate to see Chrysler undercutting their dealers in another profit center. It will be interesting to see if the program expands - it seems like oil filters are easy since one part number covers almost the entire fleet of Chrysler vehicles.
