The press and Wall Street like to focus on the fact that oil is now closing at over $100 per barrel.

Will this affect the retail buyer, or is it all just a function of the pump prices?

Concerns about the U.S. Economy are now almost as strong as those about the Iraq War when it comes to issues on the minds of American voters.

My guess is that most American's don't get too excited about the price of a barrel of oil, it's the price of gasoline at the pump that makes the biggest impact. And although the current price is high, it's lower than it was in the Summer.

Concerns about the Economy, however, may have a greater impact on new-car sales. It appears that 2008 will be an interesting year.

When people see our 12/17 MPG sticker on a Touareg, they generally walk across the showroom to look at a Passat Wagon.

We get 10+ calls a day asking if we have new/used diesels.

I think it's definately affecting the market.
