I had a chance to look at October's Dealer Sales Report for the West Business Center earlier this afternoon.

While we all know that October was a tough month, I was amazed that over 50% of the Dealers in the West Business Center sold fewer than 14 new vehicles for the month. That's over 150 dealers that sold fewer than 14 new cars.

In one case a dealer I'm familiar with sold six units for the month but had over 70 new cars in inventory - that's almost a full year's supply.

Hopefully better times are ahead because the combination of falling volumes and low grosses doesn't make the new car business look very attractive. :(

The sebc sales report is three pages long. I have never been on the first page.
I have been on the first page the last two months with 32 in Sept and 29 in October.
I should be doing 45-50 and be barley on the second page. the Atlanta area is really hurting...

All it takes is 36 units and you'd be on the front page of the WBC's Sales Report this month. :(

The part that really caught my attention is how far some of the really big Dodge stores have fallen. There are some stores that used to sell 100 - 150 units a month just a couple of years ago that are selling 30 - 40.

It's also interesting to see that some of the stores that are outside of the metro market aren't getting hit as hard. It's almost like they never had the huge sales increase in the past so they're not getting hit with the huge sales decrease now.

I would guess that several of the large dealerships are really hurting from the loss of CFC leasing, especially in metro areas and areas with high levels of employee purchasing.

All the negative press isn't doing any of us any good either.

Great point.

I noticed that the Top 100 Dealer Report shows a huge drop-off from some of the Detroit area dealers that used to do 80%+ Employee Leasing deals. With the current "mood and morale" in Detroit it's actually amazing that they sell the number of vehicles that they do.

Concerning the bad press, I may be paranoid but I'm convinced that Cerberus has allowed the bad press to continue because it fits their agenda. They need Chrysler to look like it's near bankruptcy so they can tap into U.S. Government funds to finance a buy-out. I think Cerberus wants to dump Chrysler and they know they can't do it without the help of the government.

At this point, the ball is in Cerberus' court - it's anyone's guess what will happen next?

Maybe Cerberus should try to get Chrysler changed into a bank? Just a thought...

My bet is that Cerberus manages to come out of this mess smelling like a rose. Chrysler, not so much....... :(
