I was just reading that Ford will drop all national ads for the Mercury Division and target their spending to support Lincoln. The Dealers have been asked to support Mercury throught their Dealer Ad Associations.

Is the writing on the wall? Will Mercury survive? Should it survive?

During a recent Make Meeting at NADA the Lincoln Mercury Dealers indicated that the future of the Mercury brand was their greatest concern.

Ford has shifted the bulk of its new product launches to the Lincoln Franchise leaving many to question the long-term viability of the Mercury Franchise. The Lincoln Mercury Dealer Council hopes to have a decision from Ford this year.

I was reading an article in Automobile magazine about the future of Mercury. The person they interviewed bascially laid out the current lineup through 2010 or 2011, but did not give any info on future models. My guess is they'll be out.

Mercury is an old fart nameplate. That's why Grand Marquis sales have died. Their customers are six feet under. If they had unique products instead of Ford clones, they could survive. But alas, they are like the Dodge Aries/Plymouth Reliants of the 1980's.
