When the Shuttle Endeavour launched on May 16th on STS-134 mission there were clouds at 5000 feet, and the clouds were at least 500 feet thick. Folks on ground could see the Shuttle for only 22 seconds before it vanished into the clouds. A seriously cool photo of Monday's shuttle launch, from the best seat in the house...............an F-15E Strike Eagle at 26 thousand feet over the east coast flying protective combat air patrol for the launch.

That is a very cool photo.

I was in Florida several years ago and had a chance to watch a shuttle launch from a distance. I was down there for some meeting and I remember the instructor was really cool and knew a lot of us wanted to see the shuttle launch so we took a break at the time it was scheduled to lift off.

We were probably 40 - 50 miles away but it was still really impressive.
