I think it's a great looking car and I've always respected BMWs.

That said, I ran across a Blog that reported that a lease payment for the new 1 Series would be about $700/month if the customer didn't put any cash as a down payment. The Blog suggested that a better deal could be negotiated on a 3 Series.

Here's a link to the Blog: http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/02/28/bmw-1-series-fans-freaking-out-over-the-lease-rates/

Since you're the BMW Expert in these parts, do you agree or disagree with the lease quote in the Blog?

I just picked up a 3-Series this weekend and I love it! I just had to brag a bit. :)

The 1-Series is overpriced for what it is. It is a great looking car though. If BMW could drive prices down, it would be a major success.

Congratulations on the new car. :) I remember reading a post of yours indicating that you just sold your old car to Lithia's L2 Dealership using their new system - now I know what you replaced it with....

Back to the 1 Series, I read that the residuals are OK but the money factor is high. I'll wait for Rod to chime in with more details.

Correct...The Money Factor is Standard which as of right now is .00255...This will make the lease payment pretty high.

I was reading a BMW Forum the other day and noticed that the 1 Series had created an emotional debate.

It seemed that there was no question that it was going to be a great car, the issue is what type of customers it would attract to the brand. There was a set of owners that resented BMW for "trying to be all things to all people."

Mercedes tried this before and failed - it will be interesting to see if BMW can make it work?
