Automotive News is reporting that the Duramax Diesel will be out of production for four months so GM can reconfigure the engine to meet new emissions laws.

The article indicated that dealers only have a 60 - 70 day supply of trucks available.

Did the dealers have any advance notice of this plan? You'd think that GM would have encouraged their dealers to increase their inventory if they knew the engine was going to be unavailable that long.

It's definitely good news for Ford and Dodge dealers.

How could GM mess this up? They must have known this was coming down the pike for quite a while and should have been prepared for it.

Not sure it can help Ram when dealers can't get inventory now....local dealer has less than 20 new rides on the ground....

Inventory is starting to come in at a faster clip. We got in 6 two weeks ago, 5 last week, 5 more this week. Considering we only had 7 on the lot 3 weeks ago that is a dramatic improvement.

That's what I was thinking too.

If GM had been smart they would have offered their dealers extra flooring assistance and suggested they increase their inventories to 120+ day supply. It would have been a "win-win" for both GM and their dealers.
